Having been an active member of the preparedness community since 2015, I have made my fair share of mistakes.
The vast majority of preppers out there ignore the fundamental reality that preparedness is
spiritual as much as it is physical, which is why many have set themselves up for failure.
Preparedness begins in the heart, soul, and mind.
If fear, anxiety, and panic fuel your decision-making processes going into this discipline, then it’s best to completely reassess your priorities.
Slow down.
A distracted, hurried mind isn’t simply a playground for the devil. It really is the devil. Accumulation (read: hoarding) and pride are often the primary motivating forces behind the decisions that most members of the preparedness community embrace, whether consciously or subconsciously.
As followers of Christ, a radically different approach is not only needed but necessary for experiencing the shalom (peace) of God in the midst of tribulation. God intends for his people to experience rest even in the midst of the inevitable disasters that life brings our way.
And, my list of survival gear points you to the absolute essentials that are needed in a worst case scenario. Even the most seemingly innovative and useful preparations are not inherently essential. It's easy to get distracted with the latest gadgets and things, but the truth is clear: simplicity is the key to survival.
